The Barcelona Throwdown is a scaled competition with an online qualifier and live final event. This competition has as main goal to let every athlete, regarding age of level, have the experience to be on the competition floor. Therefore there are a lot of spots in the final event. Athletes who have already competed in a big event are not allowed to join The Barcelona Throwdown.
The competition includes four levels to play:

1. Barcelona Throwdown
1.1. BTD is not a sanctional CrossFit event. BTD has nothing to do with CrossFit HQ.
1.2. The QUALIFIER for the finals is held from MARCH 17th until APRIL 17th 2020 22:00 CEST.
1.3. The Finals are held in november 8 & 9 JULY of 2023
2. GENERAL RULES, TERMS AND CONDITIONS
2.1. By participating in any stage of BTD, the ATHLETE agrees to all rules and policies pursued by the organization of BTD. The ATHLETE accepts all the risks associated, or could reasonably be associated with a sport event. For each specific case, the policy conducts by BTD Organization is always determined by decisions made by BTD Organization.
2.2. The ATHLETE accepts that these decisions are final and binding in all respects. To clarify the rules that apply before, during and after BTD, the rulebook is established and are compulsory for every ATHLETE, participating in BTD finals.
2.3. All times, deadlines etc mentioned in our communications are in Central European (Winter) Time.
2.4. Under no circumstances will BTD be responsible or liable for any damages or losses of any kind, including injuries. All ATHLETES compete at their own risk.
2.5. BTD has the right to exclude ATHLETES from the QUALIFIER or FINALS without giving any reason. BTD also has the right to validate scores or declare them invalid.
3. PARTICIPATION REQUIREMENTS
3.1. Participation in BTD is only allowed if the ATHLETE has never been at the finals of an (inter)national fitness tournament, individual or as a team, in the top division. Competitions include but are not limited to: The CrossFit Lowlands Throwdown, Tiglon Series, The Amsterdam Throwdown, The Battle of Amsterdam, The Beach Throwdown, The German Throwdown, The Belgium Throwdown, Battle of the North, and simelar events. 3.2. Anyone that is able to perform the Qualifier Workouts as prescribed in their category, and has not joined a major event as in 3.1, may attempt to register to compete as an ATHLETE in BTD. Such registration is subject to each prospective ATHLETE’s agreement to all BTD policies, rules and regulations.
3.3. ATHLETES that have been to the FINALS in the top 10 of BTD before have to sign up in a higher division. ATHLETES are not allowed to join the same division multiple times, except for the KIDS division.
3.4. ATHLETES under 18 must have explicit permission from their parents or guardians.
3.5. All ATHLETES must compete in the QUALIFIER to advance to the FINALS.
3.6. All ATHLETES must register online at COMPETITION CORNER. Upon registration, the ATHLETE agrees to all policies, rules and regulations, including processing of personal data.
3.7. Registration of an ATHLETE is only valid if the registration and fee is paid in full before the deadline.
3.8. The registration fee’s are published at the platform of COMPETITION CORNER.
4. REQUIREMENTS
4.1. ATHLETE, which can be male, female.
4.2. per ATHLETE.
5. CATEGORIES
5.1. ATHLETES can participate in the following categories:
- Scaled
- Regular
- Advanced
- Rx
in different age categories:
– 16 t/m 28– 28 t/m 35– 36 t/m 45– 46 t/m 55– 55+
5.2. The ATHLETE’s age as of july 8th 2020 will determine for which category the ATHLETE is eligible to subscribe.
5.3. A Master 40+ ATHLETE can subscribe to the ‘Master 40+ & Junior’ category OR the ‘adult’ category.
5.4. If a Athlete wants to change the category, the ATHLETE must contact BTDby email at info@barcelonathrowdown.com at least 24 hours before the QUALIFIER deadline.
6. REGISTRATION DETAILS
6.1. Participation in THE EVENT is subject to payment of the registration fee. All payments are final. No refunds or transfers will be permitted, regardless of reason.
6.2. Registration prices do not include costs from COMPETITION CORNER or currency conversion fees.
6.3. Tickets for the EVENT are available only at COMPETITION CORNER. If COMPETITION CORNER doesn’t support your currency or payment method, please contact us via info@panamethrowdown.com
6.4. Ticket price per team for the QUALIFIER is €15,90 ex fee
6.5. Ticket price per team for the FINALS is €69.ex fee
7. MOVEMENT STANDARDS
7.1. The rules relating to the movements for the QUALIFIER and FINALS are prescribed by BTD. These prescriptions are binding and conclusive.
7.2. BTD will demonstrate the required movements and explain these to all ATHLETES via their socials and Competition Corner.
7.3. If an ATHLETE has a disability and therefore cannot perform or continue with a standard movement as prescribed by BTD, the movement does not count as a repetition in the Workout (and will be considered as a ‘no rep’).
7.4. Physical limitations in Range of Motion from prior physical defects or temporary or permanent injuries that are obvious and clearly definable by demonstration and are brought to the attention of the BTD Head judge prior to the beginning of the competition may be granted an exception at BTD sole discretion. (ATHLETES competing at the QUALIFIER must email info@thedutchthrowdown.nl 24 hours before the registration deadline) These cases are very rare and will be handled on a case-by-case basis.
8. THE QUALIFIER
8.1. Registration for the Qualifier closes Monday 17 April th 2023 at 22:00 CEST.
8.2. Workouts will be released Friday morning 17 March th 2023.
8.3. Scores must be submitted before Monday 17 April th 2023 at 22:00 CEST.
8.4. All workouts need to be done by same ATHLETE.
8.5. The QUALIFIER are indivuele workouts.
8.6. Repeating the workouts is permitted, All workouts can be done on different days.
8.7. ATHLETES are advised to perform all workouts with a judge but is not mandatory.
8.8. ATHLETES aiming to qualify for the finals have to submit a video of their workouts by entering their scores in COMEPTITION CORNER.
9. VIDEO SUMBISSION
9.1. Videos will be random viewed by BTD as part of the review process. If the video shows any faults, the team score may be penalized or rejected.
9.2. A score adjustment occurs when an team’s score needs to be modified based on miscounted reps, no reps, an invalid video, or a combination of all.
9.3. There are four options for the requested videos:1.) Good video - the team achieves the prescribed movement standards during eachrepetition during the workout and the score entered is correct. The score will beaccepted.2.) Reporting with a small penalty - the team shows 1 to 4 "no reps" over the entire video,of the workout. The no reps will be deducted from the score.3.) Valid with a big penalty - the teams shows 5 to 8 "no reps" over the entire video.In this case, 15% of the final score will be deducted. 4.) Invalid - the team cannot follow the prescribed workout according to the movementstandards, a significant and unacceptable number of "no reps" repetitions or the videodoes not comply with the film regulations. The team’s score in this case will berejected.
10. INVITATION PROCESS
10.1. Athletes on the top of the leaderboard will receive an invitation for the FINALS.
10.2. In case of a tie, the atlete with the lowest ranking on any of the QUALIFIER workouts will be invited.
10.3. If one ATHLETE of the team cannot participate in the FINALS for some reason, the ATHLETE cannot be replaced.
10.4. If a ATHLETE declines their invite or does not accept the invite within the deadline, the invite is cancelled. BTD will invite the next ATHLETE from the QUALIFIER ranking in that division.
11. THE FINALS
11.1. The scores at the FINALS will be registered by BTD Judges. The Judges will determine the workout results but are entitled to change a result after irregularities.
11.2. Photo or video material made by spectators or other participants does not have to be taken into account in case of a dispute and may be neglected by the judges
11.3. In case of a dispute the judge is always right unless the head judge decides otherwise.
11.4. It is not allowed to advertise without the prior consent of BTD or engage in business activity in BTD field.
11.5. BTD assumes no liability for lost clothing or other belongings of ATHLETES. This also applies to personal possessions which have been left in BTD changing facilities.
11.6. The ATHLETE has to follow the instructions given by BTD Organization, or BTD staff in BTD uniform, or otherwise apparently belonging to BTD Organization.
11.7. BTD has the right to disqualify an ATHLETE and/or pull him or her out of BTD if the ATHLETE does not abide by the rules, or behaves in an unsportsmanlike or improper manner, or of it is considered necessary due to medical reasons. In such a case, the entire Team will be taken out of the FINALS.
11.8. ATHLETES are expected to not cause damage to the property of others and leave no waste.
11.9. Any regulations not covered here will be displayed at BSD final field and must be abided by.
12. RANKING
12.1. ATHLETE will be ranked after each workout.
12.2. The best score will get 1 point, the second best 2 points etc.
12.3. The ATHLETEs with the lowest total number of points by the end of the day will be the winner.
12.4. The prizes are provided by sponsors of BTD.
12.5. A prize must be returned to BTD Organization by the Buddy Team when its results are revised and it appears that a Buddy Team is no longer entitled to a prize.
12.6. An ATHLETE or Buddy Team cannot claim a refund in return of his prize/prizes. No fees or other costs are paid (back) to the winners.
13. CANCELLATION POLICY
13.1. BTD Organization may cancel the finals (hereinafter “Cancel”), or on the day of the finals withdraw (“Withdraw”) them. BTD may Cancel or Withdraw BTD if there are unforeseen circumstances and/or force majeure, which includes (but is not limited to) (expected) extreme weather conditions, computer virus, epidemic, bugs, worms, tampering, unauthorized intervention. It is unilaterally decided by BTD what constitutes extreme weather or a force majeure. It is the responsibility of BTD Organization to determine when the risk of accidents or dangerous situations are increased due to extreme weather conditions or force majeure. The decision of BTD to Cancel or Withdraw BTD Buddy Edition in the event of such conditions is undisputable.
13.2. In the case of a Withdraw or Cancel, costs incurred by the ATHLETE for participating in the finals, including the costs of the ticket are non-refundable.
14. INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY RIGHTS
14.1. All intellectual property rights and material made by the camera crew of BTD (both photos and film material) is property of BTD.
14.2. Photographers or cameramen who do not belong to the camera crew of BTD and which have not received explicit permission from BTD, shall not be permitted on the competition floor. BTD is entitled to send these people away.
14.3. ATHLETES taking part in the finals, or located on the site of BTD automatically agree to waive their portrait rights and other intellectual property rights for images of video created during BTD.
15. CHANGES
15.1. BTD can revise this rulebook anytime. Changes to the rulebook will be communicated on our website www.barcelonathrowdown.com
15.2. In case where the rulebook, workout descriptions or other communications is unclear, BTD always has the final word.
